SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Our Mission
To provide free, high-quality education and care to children from disadvantaged backgrounds, regardless of caste, gender, class, religion or disability.

Dedication
Combined with the ceaseless dedication of all the teachers at Gamru under Headmistress Meenakshi Sharma, it takes donations to make this school possible. Our expenditures total 20 million rupees a year! Yours donations are essentional to this cause.

School Trip
In October, students went on a field trip to Pong Dam Lake, a reservoir created in 1975 by the highest earthfill dam in India on Beas River. Each year, thousands of migratory birds flock to the lake and the students were able to see some of these birds on their trip.

Creativity
During the annual Diwali festival, students participated in a competition to make the most beautiful rangoli. Each team was comprised of a student from Class V, VI, VII and VIII. Students ended up making beautiful, elaborate creations!
ALWAYS GROWING

Picnic
The students and teachers of Gamru Village School voyaged to the Masroor Rock Temples in the Kangra Valley of Beas River in Himachal Pradesh. These Hindu temples were created in the early 8th century by carving out of one rock face. Students were able to learn about the history of the temples and also enjoyed a picnic at the temples.

Self-Responsible
The students of Gamru has transformed an area in the front of the school into a garden and they use the vegtables that they grow throughout the year in their school lunches. Students also created a beautiful hanging garden wall by reuseing plastic water bottels to make red pots for plants!

Sustainability Efforts
On June 5th, students from Gamru Village School participated in a competition in conjunction with Environment Day, where over 13 schools competed in various competitions regarding sustainability efforts. Both Naina and Sonia received prizes at this competition.

Community-Engaged
The students of Gamru planted ten trees at the end of August around the school. This is just one way that students help to reduce their carbon footprint and consumption! Students also regularly participate in village cleanup projects, where they pick up trash in their school's surrounding community.
